Island Style Birthday!

Recently, we attended a 10th birthday party for a friend of the girls. There's no party like a tropical party! Her Dad manages a resort on a deserted distant shore of Isla Bastimentos. This provided the perfect location for an island celebration!

They arranged for a boat to gather up the party-goers and the dock just happened to be connected to our apartment so at the arranged time a mob of kids showed up at our place ready to board ship. Then, not uncommon in Bocas, the departure was over an hour late. The kids turned the delay into a sweet pre-party.

Once they realized the captain was on island-time the began exploring the dock and checking out the sea life. This turned into requests for a couple bucks so they could run across the street to buy fishing supplies. They got fishing line, hooks & salchichas(hot dogs)[bait]. Successful catch and release was achieved on the unsuspecting sea dwellers. From there the only place to go was into the sea. All the kids were jumping, diving and swimming off the dock and diving board.

When the captain actually did arrive the kids seemed surprised....as if they were already at the party!

Pitstop en route. Notice the homemade gym on the dock. The weights are giant blocks of cement. You gotta be mega-strong just to play with those dudes!

How's this for a party site!

Beach stroll!

Our other friends own another resort at the far end of the beach and kindly invited us to sleepover in one of their empty cabins.

We had great dinner and conversation late into the night. 2 days prior I surfed some of the best waves of my life with another traveler who ended up being the musical entertainment for the evening.

Here are some random shots from other fun days around the island.

The moods of Malea...

One of the cool things about this place is that people just show up at your door. It's not like the States where everything is scheduled. On this day we were chillin' at the house and heard "Hello" from our front door and the girls friends had shown up.......and so they swam!

Aaahhh, we're gonna miss this place....
